Mary Fiona Lucas
My work
I work with people who are capable, responsible, even admired by others, yet privately sensing that something in the way they are living or working no longer quite fits.
For over fifteen years, my work has focused on supporting people to look beneath patterns of achievement, endurance or self-reliance, and to make space for change that is internally grounded rather than driven by expectation. I work across coaching and therapy, drawing on developmental psychology, relational depth and existential inquiry.
Before training as a therapist and coach, I spent years as a journalist covering human stories for The Times, Sunday Telegraph, and London Evening Standard, and produced documentary work in Bangladesh documenting displacement and resilience in the Jamuna Delta.
This earlier work taught me how to listen for what isn’t being said, to hold complexity without rushing to resolution, and to recognise the patterns that keep us repeating ourselves. It also gave me insight into the particular pressures faced by those who’ve learned to perform competence while carrying private struggle.
Training
I am a fully qualified, ICF PCC-accredited professional coach, based in the South West of England.
My training includes ICF Professional Coaching Certification in Integral Leadership Development (New Ventures West), a Diploma in Drama, Metaphor and Movement Therapy (Sesame Institute), accredited family and commercial mediation training, and a BA in Philosophy from the University of Bristol.
